View of Rosengarten

Yesterday, we saw Rosengarten from a distance while driving to Sassolungo. It looked quite impressive, and since it was also close to our hotel, we decided to go and have a closer look today.

The night before, I checked the Carezza website and found that a day pass was only €39. It covered all the lifts in the area, so it seemed like a good deal. There was also free parking at the Welschnofen cable car station.

So we got up early and drove there in the morning.

When we got out of the car, I immediately regretted wearing shorts. It was quite cold in the morning, and there were quite a few German-registered cars in the parking lot. Most people seemed to be wearing shorts with long-sleeved tops, which suddenly made my choice feel a little less strange.

After buying the tickets, we took three cable car sections up to about 2,339 meters.

The sun wasn’t up yet, so it was still quite cold at the top. As we walked, the sunlight slowly started reaching the mountain behind us, and it became more comfortable.

The trail was quite narrow in some places, so we had to be a little more careful. We also met quite a few people along the way, and almost everyone greeted each other. We heard “Hello,” “Guten Morgen,” and “Buongiorno” as people passed by.

We had originally planned to have a much more relaxed day.

That didn’t really happen.

We ended up doing another fairly difficult hike, walking all the way to the Aquila di Christomannos. It took us around two and a half hours.

After passing the eagle, we continued on to Rotwandhütte. The view from there was really nice, and it was a great place to take some photos. We stayed there for a while before taking the Paolina chairlift back down.

The chairlift was a little scary at first. As soon as it started moving, it suddenly went out over the mountain, and it felt quite high above the ground. The open chair and the safety bar didn’t make it feel any less high.

After getting down, we walked to the Tschein chairlift and took it back up to around 2,000 meters. It was the same kind of open chairlift, but this time I was much more relaxed.

By around four in the afternoon, the light was perfect. The whole mountain was finally in the sunlight, and the rocks looked completely different from the morning.

We took some more photos and, this time, felt pretty satisfied.

Then we headed back down.
